Tyrann Mathieu has been the New Orleans Saints' best veteran defenseman this year. He is the team's turnover leader. Despite playing at a high level, he still looks ahead to life after football.
That future is still a few years away, but Mathieu admits he is thinking about coaching. These internal conversations went as far as whether or not he would coach at the professional or collegiate level.
In the past, Mathieu has expressed a desire to coach at his alma mater, LSU. The safety's leadership was one of his most touted traits as a player, so a move to coaching makes sense.
In his active career “Achieved everything I personally set out to do.” Now he takes it year after year and enjoys it.
It feels like the opportunity to play for the Saints is just the icing on the cake of a great career. He returned to his hometown in 2021 and that was the last box he had to check.
Mathieu has enjoyed “being able to come home, be in the community, play football at a high level and be productive on the field.”
