Power of the Tigresses

Bangladesh had won the toss and decided to showcase their batting skills. The total score was led by Sharmin Akhter's excellent career best of 96 off 89 balls. Sharmin, who returned from an international break in July 2023, hit around 14 boundaries but narrowly missed her maiden century. She was dismissed in the penultimate over, caught at mid-on by Freya Sargent as she attempted to reach her maiden century.

Sharmin received strong support from opener Fargana Hoque, who made a good 61 from 110 balls. Fargana and Murshida Khatun (38 off 61) built a solid opening partnership of 59 runs, laying the foundation for Bangladesh's record score. Freya Sargent was the Irish team's standout bowler with 2-51, while Laura Delany and Aimee Maguire claimed a wicket each.

Bowlers wreak havoc

Bangladesh speedster Marufa Akter caused an early stir in Ireland's comeback, dismissing captain Gaby Lewis (5) and Amy Hunter (0) on successive balls in the third over. Aside from missing out on a hat-trick, her efforts managed to unsettle the Irish team.

Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter claimed three wickets each while Marufa dismissed two wickets, leaving Ireland's batters struggling. Only Sarah Forbes (25) and Laura Delany (22) offered any resistance before Ireland fell well short of wickets.

This win surpasses Bangladesh's previous biggest win by runs, a 119-run win against the South African women's team. Bangladesh leads the series against Ireland 1-0 and will look to seal the deal in the second game on November 30.
