After taking on an 8-2 Philadelphia Eagles team in Week 12, the Los Angeles Rams will get a bit of a break on Sunday when they take on the 4-7 New Orleans Saints. It's a much easier matchup for Sean McVay's team, but that doesn't mean it will be an easy win.
Under interim coach Darren Rizzi, who replaced the recently fired Dennis Allen, the Saints have looked like a different team over the last two weeks. The Saints are 2-0 under Rizzi and beat the Falcons and Browns before their bye.
They've gained some momentum after losing seven games in a row and McVay won't be taking them lightly despite their unimpressive record. He says their 4-7 rating is misleading.
“I think their record is misleading,” McVay said. “They did a good job winning the last two games. They have said goodbye. There are still some basic things. Defensive, [Saints DC] Joe Woods did a good job. [Saints OC Klint] Kubiak, after losing just a few of those receivers, has done a really good job of using a variety of different personnel personnel and you still see the same impact [ coach [Darren] Rizzi is in the teams. I know that, I've seen a really good football team, especially in the last few weeks. They beat the Atlanta team that leads their division. If you look at the way the Browns played last Thursday against one of the better teams in this league, they did a great job of taking care of themselves.”
The Saints started the season 2-0, defeating the Carolina Panthers 47-10 and the Dallas Cowboys 44-19 in the first two weeks. They then lost seven straight and were without Derek Carr for several weeks, which led to Allen's dismissal.
Fresh off a bye and with a coach who has lit a fire within his team, the Saints are not a group to ignore – especially for a Rams team in desperate need of a win after being knocked out by the Eagles in Embarrassed.
