Ruud van Nistelrooy: Leicester City name Dutchman as their new manager

Leicester City have appointed former PSV Eindhoven coach Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new coach.

The Dutchman replaces Steve Cooper, who was released last weekend took over the management of the Foxes after just 12 Premier League games.

He has signed a contract until June 2027 at the King Power Stadium.

Van Nistelrooy's appointment comes two weeks after he left his role as interim manager at Manchester United following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

“I’m proud, I’m excited,” Van Nistelrooy, 48, said.

“Everyone I talk to about Leicester City is excited. They have great stories about the quality of the people who work at the club, the fans and of course the recent history of the club is impressive.”

“I’m looking forward to getting started, getting to know everyone and giving everything I can for the football club.”

Leicester sit 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone, and travel to Brentford on Saturday.

First-team coach Ben Dawson will lead the side in west London before Van Nistelrooy leads the Foxes for the first time at home to West Ham on December 3.

Van Nistelrooy oversaw three wins and one draw during his four games at United, with two of the wins coming against Leicester in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.
