What you should know
The Jazz will play in front of their home fans on Saturday, but a look at the spread shows they may need that home advantage. They host the Dallas Mavericks at 9:30 p.m. ET at the Delta Center. The Jazz could use some counterattacking for this game as the team suffered 18 turnovers on Wednesday.
The Jazz enter the game having just suffered their biggest loss since November 7th on Wednesday. Against the Nuggets they reluctantly had to settle for a 122:103 punch in the gut. Utah took an early lead (plus-12 with 5:48 left in the first quarter), but unfortunately they couldn't maintain that momentum.
Despite the loss, the Jazz got strong performances from Walker Kessler, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Collin Sexton, who was 9-for-16 en route to 26 points. The dominant performance also gave Kessler a new career high in assists (five).
Although they lost, the Jazz smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks beat the Hawks by 129 points on Monday and decided to stick with that number again on Wednesday. The Mavericks strolled past the Knicks by a point and won the game 129-114. Dallas pushed the score to 90-71 by the end of the third period, a deficit that New York trimmed but never fully recovered from.
The Mavericks' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Spencer Dinwiddie led the way by nearly posting a double-double with 21 points and nine assists.
Utah hasn't been great lately, as the team has lost six of its last seven meetings, putting a dent in its 4-14 record this season. As for Dallas, their win was their third straight at home, increasing their record to 11-8.
