Leny Yoro could make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal on Wednesday. Head coach Ruben Amorim said he was “excited” to see the “special talent” in action for the club.
United have signed Yoro from Lille for £52 million However, in the summer, the Frenchman underwent surgery for a foot injury that he accidentally sustained during a friendly match during pre-season training in the USA against Arsenal.
The 19-year-old has not played since but returned to training in October and is set to make his first competitive Premier League appearance at the Emirates Stadium (kick-off 20:15 GMT).
“Maybe Leny Yoro will be in the squad,” Amorim said in his pre-match press conference. “I feel like he’s doing well now, his fitness is better.”
Yoro was linked with Real Madrid, Paris St-Germain and Liverpool before joining United in July. The club's sporting director Dan Ashworth described the centre-back as “one of the most exciting young defenders in world football“.
Amorim said: “He is a special talent, we have to be careful at first. We didn’t have too much training.” [sessions] together. He trained with a small group of players.
“He’s really fast, a modern defender. He will be good if we want to press high and leave a lot of strikers in this league standing one on one, he can do that. “He’s very good with the ball, so I’m very excited.”
“We have to be careful, we have to manage the load and the minute at the beginning, but I'm really happy to see Leny Yoro play.”
