Steve Smith expresses trust in Pat Cummins’ captaincy

Star Australia dough Steve Smith Captain Pat Cummins expressed his confidence. The express pacer was given the baton after a major Tim Paine controversy rocked Australian cricket. There have been questions about appointing a pacer as captain, but the 31-year-old has done commendable work, including winning the World Test Championship final against India and retaining the urn in The Ashes in 2023.

Comment on the trip below CumminsSmith commented that he has done a great job for the team and has the support of his teammates. Recalling Australia's recent successes, he noted that Cummins was calm, composed and relaxed and that this helped the team's culture.

“He did a great job, didn’t he? (For) the last few years. He was supported by some really good players, we're obviously a very good team and played some good cricket. So, you know, he's settled into the role well, he's calm, composed and very relaxed and yeah, he's done a wonderful job so far and hopefully it stays that way,” Smith responded to CricTracker's query via Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Smith will be fielding at number four in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to begin on November 22. After David Warner retired from Test cricket, Smith expressed a desire to bat at the top, but his move was not a success, having scored 171 runs in four matches. Ahead of the five-match series against India, the team management wanted him back in the middle order as Nathan McSweeney was selected to partner Usman Khawaja.

Australia is yet to begin training for the series. India, on the other hand, began their camp on November 12 at the WACA. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul were spotted training while the other players are expected to join on November 13.
