What do you think is the best way for the Panthers to improve their defense? – Jack L.
There has been a lot of discussion about Carolina's problems on defense. They have allowed the most points per game (31.0), the third-most total yards (386.9) and the fifth-most yards per game this season. Nevertheless, in its most recent winning streak, the team has only given up 17 and 22 points to the Giants and New Orleans Saints, respectively.
The Panthers have gotten better at recording takeaways as they have scored five goals in their last three games. Additionally, the return of outside linebacker DJ Wonnum, shown on Sunday, has increased pass-rush productivity.
Nonetheless, addressing defense must be a priority this offseason. In addition to free agency, the 2025 draft could provide some opportunities to acquire some talent – especially with the high-end talent of the upcoming class.
There were hints of what could become of Carolina's defense. Having Pro Bowl defensive lineman Derrick Brown back on the roster would obviously help, and they need to get younger overall while installing quality starters and depth on the unit.
This may not be a one-year solution. It will likely take some time to build this unit from the ground up.
