Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2024: Emma Raducanu & Katie Boulter put Great Britain into quarter-finals

Emma Raducanu made a successful return from injury before Katie Boulter followed with another win to secure Great Britain's place in the quarter-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup.

In Britain's opening first round match against Germany, Raducanu secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory – on her sixth match point after a nervy finish – over Jule Niemeier in Malaga.

The 22-year-old was playing her first game in almost two months due to a foot injury, but put in an encouraging performance in her latest comeback in the 12-nation women's team competition.

“I feel pretty good physically. Emotionally, I felt pretty calm out there. I’m very happy to have gotten this point,” said Raducanu.

“I think this event is a great way to come back, even though the pressure is on to get a point for the team. You don’t just play for yourself, you play for everyone.”

Having just broken into the top 25, British number one Boulter secured victory in the best-of-three match later on Friday with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over 84th-ranked Laura Siegemund.

Boulter's win ensured the nation progressed without Olivia Nicholls and Heather Watson having to face German pair Anna-Lena Friedsam and Tatjana Maria in a crucial doubles match.

Great Britain, who have never won the BJK Cup, will face defending champions Canada in the round of 16 from 4pm GMT on Sunday.
