A tournament stands between PGA Tour players and the offseason as the 2024 RSM Classic marks the final FedEx Cup fall event. Serving as the fall finale of the FedEx Cup for the second consecutive year, the RSM Classic is where competitors compete for playing privileges, job security and key points in the Official World golf Ranking before an important year-end date.
A diverse field will be coming to Sea Island golf Club, led by defending champion Ludvig Åberg. The young Swede set the tournament record last season en route to his first PGA Tour victory, storming the field and putting the finishing touches on a memorable year. This time Åberg has had successful knee surgery and is serving for the first time since the Tour Championship.
He will be joined on the field by a number of his colleagues who have no fear of having to play well this week to secure their jobs. Georgia boys Brian Harman, Chris Kirk, Davis Thompson and a host of other Sea Island locals will be teeing it up in their backyard alongside the likes of Denny McCarthy and recent winner Austin Eckroat.
Former tournament champion and two-time runner-up Mackenzie Hughes returns to Sea Island as the top seed in the Aon Next 10 – Nos. 51-60 in the FedEx Cup standings, which qualifies for the first two signature events of the 2025 season. While the Canadian will be on the fields at Pebble Beach and Riviera, he still has work to do if he wants to find a tee time at Augusta National in April.
With the year coming to a close and the OWGR's top 50 players receiving invitations to the season's first major championship, Hughes finds himself ranked 63rd and in need of a strong showing. Lucas Glover is currently checking out the bubble at No. 50, while players like Si Woo Kim, Eric Cole and Matt Wallace are on the outside looking in.
While Glover is viewed by some as a bubble boy, Wesley Bryan will get the most attention. The one-time PGA Tour winner sits at No. 125 in the FedEx Cup standings and holds the final full-time PGA Tour card in his hands. He will need to put in another strong performance if he wants to retain the title, with players like Joel Dahmen, Daniel Berger and Sam Ryder all vying for full-time playing privileges from 2025.

- Ludvig Åberg (9-1): Back-to-back rounds of 61 over the weekend saw Åberg rocket past the field and into the winner's circle in 2023. The Swede set tournament and PGA Tour scoring records along the way and returns as a much more experienced player, albeit still with just that one PGA Tour victory to his name. Despite being the clear class act in this field, Åberg could show a bit of rust in his first start since knee surgery.

- Denny McCarthy (25-1): Two months away from competitive golf should be enough for McCarthy to return to 100% following a hip injury that occurred in the first postseason event. Having not played since the BMW Championship, the 31-year-old returns in a comfortable position as he is still searching for his long-awaited first PGA Tour title. He has three top-10 finishes in his last five tournament appearances, including a T5 finish last year.
- Si Woo Kim (28-1): Kim has been playing about once a month for the last three months and has had a lot of success. The four-time PGA Tour winner, who posted three straight top-20 finishes including a T6 in his last start at the Zozo Championship, needs another top-notch showing if he wants to secure an early Masters invite. Kim is ranked No. 55 in the OWGR and comes to Sea Island, where he has struggled throughout his career and has a top 20 finish in five appearances.
- JT Poston (30-1): Poston's play on his native Sea Island is a mystery considering how well he fits the courses statistically. With a top-20 finish and five missed cuts in eight tournament starts, the youngest Shriners Children's Open champion is looking to put an end to the woes in his backyard. His playing privileges and starts in major championships are secured for 2025, but he would love nothing more than to win another one.

- Matt Wallace (30-1): He's outside the top 125 and sits 133rd in the FedEx Cup standings, but Wallace is suspended for next season thanks to his win at Corales a year ago. Instead of playing on the PGA Tour this fall, the Englishman spent time in Europe, where he scored a win at the European Masters and two strong finishes at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship. It's still early, but he currently sits fourth in the European Ryder Cup standings.
