It has been said that victory covers everything. The New Orleans Saints can't allow that to happen at the start of the bye week. Even though the winning streak is already two games behind, there is still a lot of work to be done.
The last two games have been positive for the Saints, but they are still 4-7. Teams with seven losses in 11 weeks need work, and New Orleans is no exception.
A major focus should be on developing a better connection between Derek Carr and his receivers, even without Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Alvin Kamara is reliable on the ground and draws a lot of targets on checkdowns, but the passing attack is mixed. Veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling had a few great plays, but wasn't consistent in the air. The Cleveland Browns took him off the roster in the second half last Sunday.
The passing attack was also highlighted by extending the field with Shaheed, but Olave had the ability to help move the ball down the field. New Orleans needs to figure out who will play that role.
Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau and the tight ends appear to be a group that could fill that need. The inconsistencies in passing the football at the mid-level caused the offense to stall for long stretches.
This is a disadvantage that has not disappeared despite the different results.
