Jofra Archer will take part in the Indian Premier League auction after initially failing to make the shortlist.
The England fast bowler was longlisted but was not among the 574 names released last week that will go under the hammer.
It was unclear why Archer appeared to have withdrawn, although there appears to have been some confusion over his future IPL prospects had he not attended the auction in Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25.
New rules state that any player who has previously participated in the IPL, like Archer, would be banned from the competition for two years if he did not take part.
The 29-year-old has endured a long battle with injuries dating back to 2020 but has been carefully looked after by England since suffering a setback with an elbow injury last summer.
He has been an integral part of the England white-ball team since May and has expressed his desire to return to Test cricket after not playing in the longest format for almost four years.
But if Archer is picked up by an IPL team – a scenario that seems likely given his status as one of the best pacers in the world – his path back to Test cricket will become more difficult.
Archer would need to prove his fitness in the County Championship for Sussex but the early rounds of the season clash with the IPL.
If Archer does not play domestic red-ball cricket at the start of the summer, it will hurt his chances of being back in a home Test in 2025 and cast doubt on a possible role in next winter's Ashes in Australia.
All centrally contracted England players were allowed to take part in the auction.
Archer would become the 38th England player in the auction, joining captain Jos Buttler and 42-year-old James Anderson.
Anderson, England's all-time leading wicket-taker, has never played in a foreign franchise league.
Test captain Ben Stokes, fellow Archer fast bowler Mark Wood and batsman Joe Root are all absent from the auction.
