Otherwise, we're still in a relatively dead period when it comes to player movements here in the offseason. The free agency market will likely heat up after Thanksgiving weekend, and the trade market should go hand in hand there. In the meantime, there are always a few rumors to clear up, so let's get started.
Bregman's market is hot
The tiger have shown interest in the free agent third baseman Alex Bregman, according to Jon Heyman. After a surprise run to the ALDS that also saw Bregman eliminated Astros The Tigers want to keep the momentum going in the Wild Card Series and don't have much salary in the bank for the future. Additionally, Bregman's former manager AJ Hinch is now the Tigers' manager.
Of course, the Tigers obviously aren't the only team facing Bregman. The Astros have already made an offer and made it clear that their priority this offseason is to re-sign Bregman. Others will be involved and Heyman reports Red Sox “inquired.” Such a signing would mean a move Rafael Devers across the diamond to first base, although that's a move that will likely happen in the next few years anyway.
There are most likely plenty of other teams interested as well, but the inclusion of the Tigers and Red Sox here is fun.
D-backs could deal an outfielder
The Diamondbacks I've heard of other teams interested in one of their outfielders who can play center field every day. reports that Republic of Arizona. That would be one of the trio Corbin Carroll, Jake McCarthy And Alex Thomas. With left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Internally, it might seem like a waste of resources, or at least a strength that could be used to offset weaknesses elsewhere.
“We’ll see,” D-Backs general manager Mike Hazen said. “I'm still skeptical that a trade will happen, but we've had a lot of calls. There aren’t many midfielders out there, I don’t think.”
Carroll is the heart of the franchise for Arizona, so any trade would involve either Thomas or McCarthy.
The left-handed McCarthy hit .285/.349/.400 (109 OPS+) with 25 steals and 1.7 WAR last season. He is 27 years old.
The 24-year-old Thomas is also a lefty, so it's not like the duo can compete against each other. In 39 games last season, he hit .189/.245/.358.
