Paro vs Hitchins

IBF welterweight champion Liam “The Prodigy” Paro and undefeated mandatory challenger Richardson Hitchins are set to compete live worldwide on Saturday, December 7 on DAZN (7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT). to compete in a high-stakes world title fight against Roberto Clemente Coliseo in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Both fighters shared insights into their training camps and their mental preparation for this crucial duel.

Paro (25-0, 15 KOs) captured his IBF title earlier this year with a thrilling unanimous decision win over Subriel Matías, a victory that established him as a true “road warrior” in the division. “It was very special to take out the so-called Boogeyman in his backyard,” Paro said. “It wasn’t just about winning – it was about showing the world what we already knew. I fight anyone, anywhere, like I did against the most shunned guy in the division [Matias].”

Fresh off his career-defining victory in Puerto Rico, 140-pound champion Paro shared his excitement about defending his title in front of the passionate fans in attendance. “Puerto Rico is a beautiful place with great people and I am honored to defend my title there,” said Paro. “It is special to return to the island that gave me the opportunity to become a champion. I’m ready to win over even more fans with this performance.”

Despite achieving a lifelong dream, Paro insists his attitude has not changed. “I've always said I want the target on my back. Knowing that someone wants to take what I've worked for my whole life is even more motivating,” he explained. “I have remained disciplined and focused and my attitude has remained the same – I am always a competitor. I know how hard this fight will be, but I'm ready to show the world what we already know. I’m one of the best in my department.”

Hitchins (18-0, 7 KOs), who became mandatory challenger earlier this year, is desperate to prove he belongs at the top of the division. “This is my department. “I’m the man at 140, and as soon as I get that belt, I’m bringing it back to New York,” Hitchins said. “This is my chance to show everyone what I’ve said all along – I’m the best 140-pound fighter in the world. Hats off to Liam Paro for taking the fight, but he’s never fought anyone like me.”

Hitchins is coached by Lenny Wilson, who has been instrumental in his development and success. Hitchins is currently training in Brooklyn and plans to move his training camp to Puerto Rico this week for the final phase of preparation. “I don’t take days off; I stay in shape all year round because that’s my job,” Hitchins said. “The discipline I learned from the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis helped prepare me for this moment. I feel like I’m at my best physically and I’ve made sure my mental game is just as strong.”

Paro trains in Florida under the guidance of his long-time trainer Alfie Di Carlo, who has had a significant impact on his career. “We know the task ahead will not be easy and we have the perfect game plan,” Paro said. “I have said for a long time that I have the best team in the world and we have proven that in every fight. This will be no different.”

As they considered their opponent, both fighters made their intentions clear. “Paro beat the so-called boogeyman of the division, but I’m not Matías,” Hitchins said. “He’s never been with a fighter like me. I have the skills, mindset and ability to pick it apart and show why I am at the top of the industry. Whether it’s through boxing or fighting, I will find a way to win.”

Paro remains equally confident: “I don’t look past anyone,” he said. “I’m focused on getting the win and moving forward as champion. My goal is clear: to keep my title and prove why I am the best in the division.”

Both fighters understand what is at stake and welcome the opportunity to test themselves in a division full of talent. “I wouldn’t consider this a shocking moment,” Hitchins said. “Ever since I was a child, I believed I was a high-level fighter. This fight is the moment I have been working towards my whole life.”

“God willing, December 7 will be another crucial night in my career,” Paro added. “I’m ready to put on a dominating performance and show once again why I’m the best at 140.”
