Gervonta Davis says his desire to begin therapy and care for his children were the main reasons he retired from boxing.
Davis made one Shocking admission During Tuesday's press conference announcing his March 1 clash with Lamont Roach, he revealed that he plans to retire at the end of 2025.
The 30-year-old, a three-division world champion and one of the sport's biggest draws, doubled down on those comments in an interview after the news conference, insisting he was stepping down for personal reasons.
“That’s why I don’t want to [to] Box no more,” Davis said Inside Boxing Live.
“I want to do therapy, but I feel like the fire I have inside me will be lost if I do therapy.
“I want to get the most out of myself, even though I will never think about fighting again.
“I don't even think about getting angry because I have two girls, two daughters.
“[I’m] I want to be a lot gentler, be more humble, things like that.”
“Tank” puts his WBA lightweight world title on the line when he takes on reigning WBA super featherweight world champion Roach at the Barclays center in Brooklyn.
The pair were scheduled to face each other on December 14 at the Toyota center in Houston, but the fight was postponed to March 1 and the venue was changed because the NBA team Houston Rockets had a game at that arena on March 1.

Davis defeated “The Reaper” in amateur competition in 2011 and the Baltimore man, who has 28 knockouts from 30 wins, admits he wants to see if his rival can match his might.
“Lamont has skills,” he said during the press conference.
“Even in a smaller weight class.
“He’s one of the guys I found in boxing and he’s still doing well.
“He is definitely a top opponent and everyone will see that on March 1st.”
“We have to test his chin on March 1st.
“He may think my opponents don't have a chin, but we'll definitely test it.
“I say leave the kids at home.”
