Jake Paul has reiterated his desire to face Canelo Alvarez this Friday with a win over Mike Tyson.
Paul faces Tyson in an even more controversial fight highly anticipated heavyweight showdown at AT&T Stadium, live on Netflix.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer has been vocal about his desire to meet the Mexican four-weight world champion and believes it could be for a world title at cruiserweight, a weight Alvarez has never fought at.
Canelo had previously turned down a fight with The Problem Child, but in May the 34-year-old told reporters he might give him a chance two years.
Paul claims his fight will see him break the record of 73,126 spectators set by Alvarez defeated Billy Joe Saunders at the home of Dallas Cowboys Stadium in May 2021 and believes the unified super middleweight champion must regain his status as the face of boxing by fighting him.
“It’s Canelo,” Paul said Suga Sean O'Malley.
“This moment will prove that I am the face of boxing.
“The biggest attraction and me versus Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight world championship is probably even bigger than me versus Tyson and it makes so much sense.”
“Canelo is on the way out.
“He's going to want a payday and I want to show the world that all the shit I said about beating Canelo is actually true and I'm going to pull off the biggest upset in boxing.”
“We will fight to really find out who the face is because after this event I will claim it as my own.”
“I beat his scoring record in Texas. I’m beating ticket sales and all that.”
Alvarez made it to light heavyweight twice, knocking out Sergey Kovalev and winning the WBO title in November 2019, but failed in his attempt to become WBA champion against Dmitry Bivol in May 2022.
The WBC approved Alvarez's request to challenge then-WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu in November 2021, and since the fight never materialized, Paul believes the Guadalajara native will still have a desire to win a cruiserweight belt win.
When asked if he thinks Alvarez will be ready to fight him, the 27-year-old replied: “He will.”
“The reason for this is that he is going for his fifth championship in the weight class.
“He wanted the cruiserweight belt.
“He wanted to challenge Makabu to become cruiserweight champion, so he wants to conquer that division so he can call himself cruiserweight champion, and that’s where the fight makes sense.”
“I can’t make it to 175 pounds, so this fight should be for the belt, and cruiserweight is where that makes the most sense.”
