Jake Paul had a surprising chance to win a world heavyweight title after Daniel Dubois became the latest big name to thrust him into the spotlight following his win over Mike Tyson.
Dubois, IBF heavyweight titleholder, joined the undisputed light heavyweight champion. Artur Beterbiev by giving Paul a direct shot at his first world title.
In an Instagram DM shared by “The Problem Child” to his 4.7 million followers on X, Dubois said: “Hi Jake.
“Good business this weekend, but how would you feel if you were fighting for the legitimate World Heavyweight Championship?”
“This is Daniel Dubois confronting you.
“Let’s get to it.”
The two are familiar with each other, as Dubois fought on the strength of Paul's first win Tyron Woodley back in August 2021.
The 27-year-old who has achieved his goal Heavyweight debutby significantly outperforming former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson, 58 AT&T Stadium on Fridayaccepted the Londoner's offer, but appeared to reject Beterbiev's call.
“The man has been boxing for 12 years, has fought over 100 fights between amateurs and professionals and fought on my undercard…hahaha,” he wrote on X.
“But fuck it… I’ll do that [my manager] Nakisa [Bidarian] Talk to Frankie Warren [Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren] and put you on the throne.
“Unlike Artur, you at least have a few thousand fans.”
Paul is not represented in any of the four major governing bodies and it seems unlikely that the normally strict IBF would sanction a fight between the two.
The man from Ohio increased his professional record to 11 wins with just one loss, while Tyson suffered a first career loss by decision in his first professional appearance in almost 20 years.
However, Dubois is yet to finalize an opponent for the next defense of his crown after talks with Anthony Joshua over a rematch collapsed.
“Dynamite” defended his title for the first time with a ruthless fifth-round loss to “AJ” at Wembley Stadium in September and has been linked to both Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.
