Tony Bellew has laughed off Jake Paul's claims he could beat Canelo Alvarez ahead of his fight with Mike Tyson on Friday.
Bellew Gate crashed Wednesday's press conference for the controversial fight between Paul and Tyson, where he mocked the YouTuber for taking on a nearly 60-year-old Tyson.
“The Problem Child” has stated numerous times that one day he will not only fight, but beat the unified super middleweight world champion Alvarezwho only lost to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
There are few, if any, in the world of boxing who would give the 27-year-old much of a chance to even be competitive against the Mexican icon, widely considered one of the greatest of his generation.
And in an interview with MailSportBellew claimed that even Paul didn't think he could upset Alvarez.
“He really doesn’t think he can beat Canelo.
“Listen, I’m 41 and older and he couldn’t tie my gloves. It is not suitable to wear my jockstrap.
“I'm an outdated retired boxer who plays golf a few times a week and he still has no chance with me, let alone Canelo.
“Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is probably one of the best fighters I've ever seen, that's how good he is.
“On the counterpunching level, he's probably one of the top five counterpunchers in the history of boxing.
“The guy is a freak, he’s a modern-day Thanos.
“Jake Paul says things for an answer and a reaction. If he was serious about boxing, he would meet real active boxers.
“Or he would compete against former world champions who aren’t grandfathers!”
Paul's fight with Tyson has been heavily criticized, with some raising concerns about the health of the former undisputed world heavyweight champion, who was forced to cancel his scheduled July 20 date due to an ulcer flare-up.
Although it is a fully licensed professional fight, the pair will wear larger gloves and fight in two-minute rounds.
65,000 fans are expected to be in attendance at AT&T Stadium, with viewership on Netflix expected to be well into the tens of millions.
The pair ramped up the pre-fight hype at Thursday's weigh-in with Tyson beat his rival before being whisked away by security as tempers boiled over.
“Iron Mike,” who hasn’t boxed professionally in nearly two decades, hopes to turn back the years and become only the second man to defeat Paul.
