Canelo World Cup Run Ends
Christian Mbilli Focus

Canelo Alvarez can now turn his full attention back to Christian Mbilli after Mexico’s World Cup dream ended in front of the undisputed super middleweight champion.
Alvarez was present again as Mexico lost 3-2 to England in one of the games of the tournament, bringing an emotional run on home soil to an end.
The super middleweight king was shown in a sky box during the game before a memorable exchange with England captain Harry Kane.
Canelo initially appeared to be stopped by World Cup security as he attempted to greet Kane. The England striker then went back to shake his hand after recognizing the boxing superstar.
At halftime, with England leading 2-1, Canelo jokingly gestured as though he wanted to punch some of the England players as they walked past.
It was another reminder that Canelo was living every kick of Mexico’s World Cup run.
Alvarez is a massive football fan and was present at every Mexico match during the country’s World Cup run.
That passion has been obvious for years. Canelo’s fierce pride in the Mexican national team previously spilled into a social media row involving Lionel Messi after the 2022 World Cup before the boxer later apologized.
Canelo’s undisputed super middleweight title defense against Christian Mbilli was pushed back from September to October. The revised schedule gave Alvarez breathing room to enjoy Mexico’s World Cup campaign before entering another full training camp.
Had the original September date remained in place and Mexico gone deep into the tournament, Canelo’s timeline back into camp would have been tighter.
Mbilli has already warned there will be no excuses when he finally challenges Alvarez for the undisputed championship later this year.
Canelo has had his World Cup run. He has followed his country, watched the dream end against England, and enjoyed the biggest sporting event staged in Mexico.
