Indian cricket team's young sensation Tilak Varma has created history in the shortest format of the game. He is the first and only batsman in the world to hit three consecutive hundreds in the history of T20 cricket.

The 22-year-old brought up his third T20 ton in the opening match of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-2025 against Meghalaya. This century wasn't a normal one, it was a record-breaking daddy hundred. The Mumbai Indians star and Hyderabad batsman played a magnificent knock of 151 runs in just 66 deliveries with the help of 10 big maximums and 14 good-looking fours.

He reached the milestone in 51 deliveries and his tone meant Hyderabad posted a massive score of 258 runs on the board, the highest score ever by a team in the history of the competition.

Tilak's good form with the bat of late will surely make the Mumbai Indians management happy. The five-time IPL winners recently enlisted the youth services ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction and with Varma hitting three consecutive centuries, it looks like a good decision by MI.

With this impressive performance with the bat in the shortest format of the game, the southpaw is gearing up to be Mumbai Indians' main man with the bat for the foreseeable future.

Tilak Varma's explosive form is not just limited to domestic T20 cricket. Earlier this month, the southpaw hit two consecutive tons for the Indian cricket team in the recently concluded T20 International series against South Africa.

He is only the second Indian batsman to do so to hit consecutive centuries in T20 Internationals. His fireworks with the bat earned him the Man of the Series Award and his performances also justify this decision.

Tilak Varma jumps to the 3rd spot in ICC's T20 International rankings

The young Indian batting sensation was well rewarded by the ICC for her back-to-back wickets against the Proteas and the 22-year-old has made a big jump in the T20 International batting rankings.

Sitting on the 66th row, the youngster jumped 69 positions to land on the 3rd row behind the duo of Australia's hard-hitting batsman Travis Head and England's explosive wicket-keeper batsman Phil Salt.

The southpaw is currently the highest-ranked Indian batsman in the T20 Internationals, with full-time captain Suryakumar Yadav, who once held the top spot for a long time, falling to fourth place after his poor batting performances in the South Africa series.

If Varma manages to maintain his explosive form in the shortest format of the game, he can seriously become one of the all-time greats in the history of the sport and also usurp the number three position, the batting spot, from the now-retired legendary Virat Kohli.
