KKR, which won the title in the last season i.e. IPL 2024, has released its title-winning skipper before IPL 2025. In such a situation, the team is looking for a new captain.

There's a big update regarding the franchise's new captain. One such name has emerged about the captain of the Kolkata-based team that will be hard to believe.

According to a news report, Rinku Singh, who won a losing game for KKR with five sixes in the last five balls against Gujarat Titans, will be the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025. If media reports are to be believed, Rinku Singh will lead the team in place of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2025. However, the franchise has not officially announced this yet.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Knight Riders have retained a total of six players including Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Varun Chakaravarthy, IPL 2024 MVP Sunil Narine and fast bowling sensation Harshit Rana.

Hard-hitting batsman Rinku Singh, who was bought at the Kolkata auction for a price of 55 million Indian rupees, has seen a huge pay hike as he was acquired for a whopping sum of 13 million Indian rupees.

The trio of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy and Andre Russell were acquired for 12 million Indian rupees while the services of Harshit Rana alongside Ramandeep Singh were also acquired for 4 million Indian rupees.

The 2024 IPL winners are looking for a new captain

The defending champions have spent a total of Rs 57 crore out of Rs 120 crore to retain the services of the above six players. The franchise will take part in the mega auction with a prize money of ₹63 crore and is looking to once again build a strong team to retain the IPL Trophy.

Earlier, some news reports suggested that the 2024 IPL winner will be eyeing his former player Suryakumar Yadav to replace Iyer as captain, but SKY has been acquired by Mumbai Indians and he will remain there for the foreseeable future.

Some reports strongly suggest that the KKR management is likely to install Rinku as captain, but the franchise has not given any official confirmation yet.
