Team India, winners of the 2024 T20 World Cup, have dealt a major blow to Pakistan's ambitions to properly host the Champions Trophy as they refused to travel to the country for next year's mega event. The Indian cricket association BCCI has written an email to the ICC in this regard and said that the Indian government has not granted travel permission to Team India .
ICC also forwarded this email to the Pakistan cricket Board, informing it of its bitter rival's refusal to travel to its neighboring country. Now there is turmoil in Pakistan. Former captain Javed Miandad called it a funny move and even warned ICC.
Relations between India and Pakistan are not good. cricket has been disrupted several times due to political disputes between the two nations. Both countries have not played a bilateral series against each other since 2012. Both teams only compete against each other on the cricket field in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. This is why India refuses to go to Pakistan.
Pakistan did not like this move by India. Great batsman and former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad said that without India, Pakistan can not only survive but also progress in world cricket.
PTI quoted Miandad as saying, “Is this a joke? Even if we don't play with India, we will not only survive in world cricket but also progress. Just like we have done in the past. I want to see how the ICC will make money if there is no agreement between India and Pakistan.”
Ever since Pakistan got the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy, there have been concerns over whether India will come to Pakistan for the tournament or not as BCCI had said that the final decision would be taken by the Narendra Modi-led Indian government.
Will the Champions Trophy be played in a hybrid venue model to suit the Indian cricket team?
Last year the Asian Cup also took place in Pakistan. Even then, the Indian team refused to travel to their neighboring country to take part in the tournament. Therefore, the competition was played in a hybrid model, with more than half of the matches played in Sri Lanka and only a few matches played in Pakistan. This time too, the BCCI insists on hosting the Champions Trophy on the same model, but Pakistan does not agree to it. Now it remains to be seen what action the ICC will take following the BCCI's clear rejection.
