BGT: Australia's legendary former captain Michael Clarke has offered valuable advice to the Kangaroos ahead of the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 (BGT). He has advised the Australian players not to sledge the elite batsman of the Indian cricket team . The 43-year-old listed several reasons why he did not let the legendary Indian batter go sledding.
Virat has been struggling to perform well lately and he has been going through a difficult phase with the bat. Despite his struggles, Indian fans are expecting Virat to deliver a brilliant performance in the upcoming five-match Test series. In the last four years, Virat has managed to score just 1,838 runs in 34 games in the five-day format at a poor average of 31.68, which includes two hundreds and nine fifties.
Why shouldn't the Australian players make the mistake of sledding Virat?
Clarke is aware of the threat that Kohli poses and he knows that he is hungry to score runs and getting bowled can help him regain his lost confidence and enthusiasm. The 36-year-old has a habit of striking back forcefully every time he is knocked down by his opponents.
Speaking to popular Indian website Rev Sports, Clarke said: “I don't think the Australian players would make the stupid mistake of beating him (Virat). “Kohli loves getting beaten up by his opponents. He would want the Australian players to step up and put up a fight against him. He will look forward to punishing the Australians by playing his best if he ends up getting beaten by them. One should refrain from giving Virat such an opportunity and I am pretty sure the Australian players would be aware of it.”
He (Kohli) has received a lot of love and support here in Australia and also has a long list of achievements. I can't wait to see him bat in the upcoming series. As I mentioned earlier, if the Indian cricket team wants to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy, their main batsman Virat Kohli needs to give his best and score as many runs as possible with the bat,” Clarke further added.
Virat Kohli is fully fit and can't wait
The 1st Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 will be played in the city of Perth from Friday, November 22 and Virat Kohli is busy preparing for the much-awaited series.
The Australian media had previously reported that the 36-year-old was struggling with fitness issues and needed to undergo an X-ray. But in the Men in Blue's team match simulation, Virat appeared fully fit and no issues were observed when he performed during the game.
The former Indian captain was dismissed after scoring 15 runs in the team's intramural game but immediately went to the nets and trained for 30 minutes. He then courageously faced short balls from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna. Virat is expected to perform well with the bat in the upcoming BGT series and he will play an important role in helping India retain the trophy.
