All eyes are on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as India needs to win the series 4-0 to reach the final of the World Test Championship on their own. But Indian fans are interested in the series between South Africa and Sri Lanka as both teams are still in contention WTC and can replace India. They played the first Test at Kingsmead in Durban and the hosts won the game convincingly by a whopping 233 runs.
With this win, South Africa jumped from fifth to second place with five wins in nine Tests. The hosts set a target of 516 as Sri Lanka started the fourth day at 103/5. In the end they were distributed over 282 points. With this win there is a further improvement in the points table as Australia have slipped to third place. They have eight wins in thirteen games with four defeats and one draw.
Talking about India, they won the Perth Test against Australia and that helped them retain the top spot. The tourists won the game by 295 runs and now have nine wins in 15 games with five defeats and a single draw. The 3-0 defeat against New Zealand denied them easy access to the final WTC spot.

India's win in Perth, followed by the Proteas' victory in Durban, has spiced up the battle for the top two spots in the WTC 2023-25 points table. If Australia manage to win the day-night Test in Adelaide, they will return to the top spot, while South Africa will also go into the second Test, scheduled to be played in Gqeberha, with confidence. The game will be played from December 6th and both sides will do everything they can to make it count towards the race for the Ultimate Test.
