Several cricket venues across India have witnessed some memorable moments in the history of Indian cricket. For this reason, state cricket associations have often named the stands from which fans cheer and play the role of the 12Th man for Team India, and were named after stalwarts of the game.
Therefore, every cricketer who represents India has a desire to make a mark with his exceptional performances on the field, which eventually leads to fans fondly remembering him by naming the stands in a stadium named after them. Star India dough cricket-players/kl-rahul/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>KL Rahul was no exception either. The Karnataka batsman recently found his power in the first Test when he played an impressive knock of 77 runs on a difficult pitch in Perth, ably supporting Yashasvi Jaiswal.
As interesting as it may sound, lately the Karnataka State Association (KSCA) came to the decision to name the stands of the renowned names M Chinnaswamy Stadium after cricketers who not only brought laurels to the country at the international level but also made the state of Karnataka proud.
Notably, the Chinnaswamy stands will be named after the legends of Indian cricket namely GR Viswanath, Erapalli Prasanna, Syed Kirmani, BS Chandrasekhar, Roger Binny, Brijesh Patel, Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and Venkatesh Prasad.

So, during a recent press interaction ahead of the second Test to be played in Adelaide, Rahul was asked if he would like to see the stands of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru named after him. He immediately admitted in his answer that he would certainly like it. But he reminded everyone that to achieve that legendary status, he still needed to score plenty of runs for the team India.
“I would like to have a stand after my name but for that I need to score a lot of runs. I haven't yet reached the stage in my career where I can make it happen. It is a good move by the Karnataka Cricket Association to honor the cricketers who have played for the country and the state. It is a nice initiative,” Rahul said during a press conference.
The dilemma in the batting order between Rahul and Rohit Sharma for India continues
Also before the second Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) Test, India have been racking their brains over whether KL Rahul should continue to play up front and as captain Rohit Sharma should ideally move down the order for the team's cause. For the inexperienced, Rahul has always been highly valued for his versatility to play in different positions while still frequently performing well. Normally, the batsman plays at number six in the Test format. Only time will tell which position the Hitman will bat at for the Indian team in their next game against Australia.
