NEW DELHI: The International cricket Council (ICC) The Board had a short virtual meeting today and members will soon take a call on the 2025 edition Champions trophy. It is reliably learned that during the meeting, which lasted a little over 15 minutes, all members agreed with India's decision not to travel to Pakistan for the multinational event next year.
“All members are aware of India's stand and agree with its decision not to travel to Pakistan as the government has not granted permission,” said an ICC official aware of the developments.
It is further understood that there are currently only two options ICC Board's table:
* The tournament will be played in a Hybrid model with all matches involving India being played at a neutral venue
* The entire tournament will be moved from Pakistan Pakistan cricket Board retains hosting rights
The board is expected to meet again in the next few days to decide how to proceed and end the impasse. The global cricket body has already missed the deadline to announce fixtures 100 days before the start of the tournament and is now hoping a solution will be found at the weekend.
Circuit board has so far stuck to its position against the hybrid model, but this could change at another board meeting. If they threaten to withdraw or not accept the hybrid model, there is a good possibility that the tournament will move out of Pakistan and even take place without Pakistan.
“At this stage, don’t be surprised if the tournament is played outside Pakistan or even without Pakistan. If PCB does not accept the hybrid model, there is a good chance that that too will happen,” the official added.
It remains to be seen how the PCB reacts now, but at this stage it is either a hybrid tournament or the tournament shifts completely from Pakistan.
