Only four rounds remain in the 2024 PGA Tour season as players are offered one final opportunity to secure job security, Official World golf Ranking points and playing privileges. This week's RSM Classic welcomes one of the stronger fields of the fall to Sea Island and will be the place where some breathe a sigh of relief while others face the disappointment of not achieving their gaming goals.
Defending champion Ludvig Åberg is making his first start since the Tour Championship, a year after breaking all possible scoring records. The young Swede reached 29 under this week, claimed his first PGA Tour victory in convincing fashion and is aiming for more of the same after a lengthy break. Åberg stayed away from the golf course in his free time, underwent successful knee surgery and hopes to be able to compete in his first tournament since.
This season's PGA Tour winners like Davis Thompson, JT Poston and Chris Kirk are looking to add another to their tally, while others like Si Woo Kim, Eric Cole and Mackenzie Hughes are aiming for OWGR points to climb into the top 50 ahead of year's end -Deadline for invitations to major championships.
Hughes has secured his place in the first two signature events of 2025, where the likes of Lucas Glover, Jake Knapp and Taylor Moore will be hoping for another quality result. While they fight for their place in the big money fields, others fight for their place on the PGA Tour. Wesley Bryan enters the week as the bubble boy ranked 125th in the FedEx Cup standings and will compete with the likes of Joel Dahmen and Daniel Berger for full-time playing privileges in 2025.
