Indiana fever star Caitlin Clark will take her talents to the golf course on Wednesday when she tees off in the Pro-Am at the upcoming LPGA tournament The ANNIKA. Clark is scheduled to tee off on Wednesday morning and will play with world No. 1 Nelly Korda on the front nine and tournament announcer Annika Sorenstam on the back nine.
Before Clark hit the road, he attended the tournament's Women's Leadership Summit on Tuesday. There she discussed a number of topics, including her main goal for Wednesday, which is pretty simple:
“I just don’t want to hit anyone with a golf ball,” Clark said said. “That’s my top priority.”
Clark, who joked about becoming a professional golfer in the offseason, described herself as an “average” player with a handicap of 16. “If I'm lucky, I can get into the mid-80s, but usually I'm just praying to break 100.” said Clark. Since the end of the WNBA season, she has been training and working with a trainer in Indianapolis in anticipation of the big day.
She admitted that she will probably be “nervous” on Wednesday, partly because she will be playing a course she has never set foot on before.
“I haven’t even seen it yet,” Clark said of the course, which is 6,349 yards long and has a par of 70. “I’ll be out there at 7 a.m. and hope for the best. Find out where I am.” I'm supposed to aim, and I hope it gets there.
The good news for Clark is that her playing partners are two of the best golfers of all time and know the course better than anyone at Pelican Golf Club in Bellaire, Florida. Korda won the Pro-Am in 2021 and 2022, while Sorenstam is the tournament host. If she needs some tips out there, she's in good hands.
Clark's full round will not be broadcast, but due to overwhelming interest, the LPGA and Golf Channel have decided to offer some coverage.
The LPGA and the event's social media channels will live stream Clark's pre-round warm-ups on the range and will also conduct a walk-and-talk interview with Clark mid-round. Additionally, Golf Channel will move “Golf Today” from 12:30 p.m. ET to 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday to show highlights and live insight into Clark's round.
Ultimately, Clark said she just “enjoy the experience.”
“I remind myself that I don’t really care what happens,” Clark said. “It doesn’t really matter. I don't play golf for a living. I'm just having fun with it. This isn't particularly serious. There were so many people who would kill to be in my position or situation. The people. “Whoever follows outside the ropes would love the opportunity to hit a ball on the first tee or something like that.”
The big questions on Wednesday might revolve around which club her playing partner would suggest, but there's also the question of whether the WNBA rookie of the Year will join Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women's basketball league founded by league stars Breanna Stewart And Napheesa Collier when the games start in January.
