🏈 The Football Five

  1. In one of the craziest games Everyone will ever see this Cowboys (4-7) beat Commanders (7-5), 34-26. There are 3:02 minutes left, Jayden Daniels threw a touchdown Zach Ertz and ran in the two-point conversion. 20-17, Dallas. KaVontae Turpin returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. 27-17, Dallas. Washington scored a quick field goal – 27-20 Dallas – and forced a three-pointer. Then Daniels struck Terry McLaurin on a miraculous 86-yard touchdown, just for Austin Siebert To miss the extra point. 27-26, Dallas. Juanyeh Thomas returned the ensuing onside kick for a touchdown. It's only the second game in NFL history with two missed extra points and two kick return touchdowns.
  2. Patrick Mahomes pulled off a 33-yard scramble and Spencer Shrader hit a game-winning 31-yarder to advance the game Chiefs (10-1) behind the Panthers (3-8), 30-27. It's not the most impressive comeback performance after the defeat against the Billsbut victories are victories. I was impressed Bryce YoungAnd were like that the chiefs.
  3. The Seahawks (6-5) took the NFC West lead by one 16:6 victory about the Cardinals (6-5). It wasn't particularly nice for either team, but Coby Bryant's 69-yard pick-six on a terrible Kyler Murray Game and some big throws over Geno Smith were enough. Mike Macdonald's defense is one of them Cody Benjamin's Week 12 winner.
  4. Off to college football. No. 4 Penn State squeaked past Minnesota, 26-25. The Nittany Lions' game-winning drive included a successful fake punt deep in their own territory and a fourth-down conversion Drew Allar To Tyler Warren to end it.
  5. No. 6 Notre Dame beaten up No. 19 Army, 49-14taking a huge step toward a spot in the College Football Playoff.

SAQUON BARKLEY AND THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

The eagle (9-2) play like the sum of their very talented parts, and there is no part more talented – perhaps in the entire NFL – than Saquon Barkley. The superstar running back ran for 255 yards, the ninth-most in a game in NFL history and a franchise record, as the Eagles literally ran away Aries (5-6), 37-20.

The numbers are absurd:

  • With the score 13-7, Barkley led a 70-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second half. He added a 72-yarder in the fourth quarter.
  • Barkley is the sixth player in NFL history with multiple 70-yard touchdown runs in the same game and the first since then Maurice Jones Drew in 2009.
  • Barkley is on pace to rush for an NFL record 2,151 yards this season.
  • Barkley is averaging 83.6 yards per second half this season, on pace to set his fastest pace ever (since 1991). Damn slow starts, he'll turn things around.

It's Philadelphia's seventh straight win, and for Barkley there's no answer, let alone everything other Weapons: AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith (who didn't play) and an offensive line that, yes, is a weapon. The defense has made huge improvements at linebacker, cornerback and safety, although the pass rush needs someone to back it up Brandon Graham'S Season-ending injury. I've been saying it for a while, but I'll say it again and again: Watch out Philadelphia.

THE SEC…

The SEC claims “it just means more,” but this weekend’s results probably mean something fewer SEC teams in the College Football Playoff.

It's the first time three SEC teams in the CFP rankings have lost to unranked teams on the same day. It also means No. 10 Georgia Is in the SEC Championship Gamewhere it will face the winner of No. 3 Texas-NO. 15 Texas A&M.

The most impressive score is certainly Alabama's. I mean, that is Alabama we talk about it. Still, the Crimson Tide's CFP hopes are slim at 8-3. Shehan Jeyarajah calls it a “total collapse” and John Talty says Kalen DeBoer has many questions to answer after his first season in Tuscaloosa, including as quarterback.

Alabama's loss is a shock. “Ole Miss” is all too familiarwrites Chip Patterson.

  • Patterson: “With Florida and Mississippi State As Ole Miss looked at its schedule for its final two games, it spent part of the week off thinking about the future. … Instead, Ole Miss let history rear its ugly head on Saturday. … The expanded CFP format was apparently designed for Ole Miss' first-ever playoff appearance, and after it posted one of its biggest wins in program history, the job was seemingly done. But these first appearances can be deceiving.”

The SEC might have dreamed of four, five or even six playoff spots. With Jerry Palm latest forecastsit has three, and Brad Crawford echoes that sentiment in his Playoff ban levels. Ultimately, says Will Backus, this is it SEC was just average.

…AND NOT A GOOD MORNING FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

The 49ers are in big trouble after a 38-10 defeat for the packerSan Francisco's worst ever loss to Green Bay.

With Brock Purdy (Shoulder) out ofthe 49ers turned to Brandon Allenwho then played around the ball twice. But it's more than that.

  • Josh Jacobs had 106 yards rushing and three touchdowns, the first 100-yard rusher the 49ers have allowed in 55 games.
  • Christian McCaffrey managed just 68 yards from scrimmage, and he also lost a fumble.
  • The defense, without Nick Bosaallowed 17 points in its first three drives, quickly putting pressure on Allen's undermanned offense.
  • Although the NFC West race is crowded, the 49ers are hamstrung by a division record of 1-3. Even a conference record of 3:5 does not improve their wild card chances.
  • And, oh yeah, that Bills are next on the agenda.

The 49ers got an “F.” John Breech's weekly gradesand Jeff Kerr says they will miss the playoffs.
