The AL winner certainly came from the Central Guardian, RoyalsAnd tiger everyone was doing much better than expected. Just like in the regular season, it was the Guardians and Vogt in particular who prevailed against Matt Quatraro and AJ Hinch. Vogt enjoyed a 10-year career as a backstop before taking a coaching role at Seattle Mariners. He led Cleveland to a 92-69 record and the Division Two title over the last three years. This included overseeing the final season of goalkeeper Emmanuel Clase and another outstanding year from José Ramírez, as well as overcoming difficulties from his starting lineup. Vogt's bullpen management, most importantly, gave him a leg up on his competition both on the field and in the race for Manager of the Year.

Murphy, 65, like Vogt, was in his first season as a full-time big league captain. He had extensive experience in leading universities and had already served on an interim basis with the Padres in 2015. Murphy took over for Craig Counsell when Counsell left to join the Padres Chicago Cubs. He showed his best as a counselor, leading the Brewers to a 93-69 record and their second straight NL Central title.
The Brewers set a franchise record by using 17 starting pitchers in 2024, a necessary representation of the team's strength. Catcher William Contreras and shortstop Willy Adames were the standouts in an offense that was missing Christian Yelich after late July, but Jackson Chourio was the highlight. After making his debut at just 20 years old, the youngest season-opening debut since Robin Yount, Chourio struggled in the early months before breaking out after June 2, hitting .305. Murphy balanced all of that on his way to the playoffs.
