UFC's latest pay-per-view is strange. The action returns to the busy T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night with UFC 310, a card without a draw to speak of but full of familiar faces.
UFC 310 was originally scheduled to be headlined by UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov. Muhammad withdrew from the fight with a bone infectionwhich led to Rakhmonov accepting a co-main event fight with Ian Machado Garry instead. Entering the marquee is the card's original co-lead, UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja, who defends his title against former Rizin champion Kai Asakura in his UFC debut.
Pantoja has been a fixture in the flyweight division for years. He finally ascended to the throne in July 2023 with a split decision victory over Brandon Moreno. This was followed by a gutsy win over Brandon Royval and a dominant performance against Steve Erceg. Asakura has been a Rizin mainstay for eight years. With the promotion he achieved a record of 13-3, including incredible wins over Kyoji Horiguchi, Manel Kape, Shooto Watanabe and Juan Archuleta.
Meanwhile, the co-main event feels like a firefight. Rakhmonov and Garry both bring immaculate records to the Octagon. Rakhmonov, the No. 1 ranked welterweight contender, has defeated each of his 18 opponents as a professional. Garry, on the other hand, is 15-0 with seven knockouts and one submission win, but he excels at disciplining his opponents with his wide range of strikes.
The undercard also features a handful of former champions seeking their way back to glory. This also includes the heavyweight fight between former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane and eternal contender Alexander Volkov. Additionally, former bantamweight king Aljamain Sterling is back in action at featherweight when he takes on Movsar Evloev. And former middleweight champion Chris Weidman wants to get back on track against Eryk Anders.
