Pozoblanco (Cordoba).- The official Toyota driver culminated a great season with victory in Pozoblanco, which also earned him the title of Spanish Rally Champion.
What was seen as a fierce fight between Cachón, with his Toyota, and Rulioba, with his Citroën, ended very quickly after the Pravia driver crashed in SS3 which forced him to retire later. The day did not start well for the French brand, which on Friday achieved the best time in the qualifying section which gave it, in theory, the best starting position.
Already in SS2, Ruiloba had made a mistake which caused him to lose ten seconds on Cachón, which forced him to take risks to try to come back. In the next section, the second pass at El Viso, the Pravia rider punctured his left front tire and additionally suffered a lot of damage to his front axle.
With the Citroën driver out of action and Cachón in the lead, the championship was decided, even if the accident of the Turk Kerem Kazaz, in SS4, who left his Ford Fiesta crossed on the track without leaving passage for the participants, caused a There was no doubt that the section would be suspended, which would give Ruiloba the opportunity to repair his car. Finally, the Ford Fiesta was able to go off the track and the stage resumed, certifying the retirement of the official Citroën driver.
With the title already decided, the race was still in progress and Cachón wanted to finish the championship in style despite the abandonment of the TC+ to “Cohete” Suárez, who, without much to gain, did not enter the fight for the rally, but he came out to take advantage of the special, beating Cachón by 1.6 seconds.
In the end, Alejandro Cachón finished the rally with a lead of 37.3 seconds over “Cohete” Suárez and 1:06.4 over the young Gil Membrado, who at 17 years old closed the podium after a great performance aboard his Ford Fiesta R5 MKII.
Dani Sordo took part in the rally with his world championship Hyundai i20N Rally 1 with the aim of doing test kilometers for 2025 in which the hybrid propulsion of the black pata will be eliminated from the championship.
The Toyota driver wins his first title of Spanish Rally Champion after a season in which he did not fail at any time and in which he had an exciting fight with Diego Ruiloba, who remained in the race until last test, and with 'Cohete Suárez, who finished third. Skoda won the brand title.
