The director of Red Bull revealed that Max Verstappen was 'more sensitive' to criticism for aggressive driving than what he showed in public. The Dutchman won his fourth consecutive title with two rounds remaining at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, after being the standout driver with a car that was not the fastest for a significant part of the season.
The Dutchman was put under pressure to Lando Norrisand both had a series of intense wheel-to-wheel battles, as happened during the Austrian Grand Prixwhere it all ended with a ten second penalty for whoever would finish champion, while their opponent would have to retire due to damage to their car.
Something similar happened at the United States and Mexico Grand Prix.with maneuvers that caused great controversy due to the aggressiveness of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman seemed to ignore criticism from the media, fans and teammates at the time, but, according to Christian Hornerhe was more affected than he appeared.
“It’s more sensitive than you think,” he said. “Inevitably he is aware of the criticism and some of it I think is very unfounded. He is a driver who drives aggressively, he is an attack driver, but he was also [Ayrton] Senna was also [Michael] Schumacher was too [Lewis] Hamilton, and all of them have been in the same kind of spotlight at different times in their careers.”

In addition to the criticism he received, this effort to keep his adversaries at bay partly explains the emotion of the current champion after the checkered flag of the Las Vegas Grand Prix: “It means a lot to him, he's not a guy who likes fame. No. [quiere] flattery, he just likes driving fast cars.
“Behind the scenes, he made a big effort with the engineers and the simulator designers, more than in previous years. The way he carried himself, the way he worked with the engineers and everything. “The staff has been phenomenal,” he continued. “He has been the best driver on the Formula 1 grid, and what he has done this year has cemented his position among the greats of the sport.”
