The Italian was chosen during the vote which took place this Monday, during the preparation day for the collective test which will take place this Tuesday at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalonia. With his election, Massimo Rivola will replace KTM CEO Stefan Piererfor the next two years, with the possibility of extending his mandate for a total of four years. Rivola has signed for the Aprilia Factory Racing team ahead of the 2019 season, following extensive experience in Formula 1, where he played for Toro Rosso and Ferrari.
The MotoGP World Championship Manufacturers Association (MSMA) brings together all the brands that participate in the championship, although this does not imply that they are always aligned. In fact, in recent times there have been tensions in the organization’s yes, when delicate issues have been discussed.
One of the most recent examples is the discussion regarding the engine freeze which will come into effect once the engines for next year (2025) are approved.and which will extend until the end of 2026, just before the entry on the scene of 850cc engines in 2027.
Although the technical regulations were already presented at that time, the proposal leaves a wide margin for interpretation of the regulations, a circumstance that normally always creates conflicts between manufacturers.
Precisely, Aprilia was one of the most skeptical members of the approved initiative. Among other things, the Italian brand considers it a contradiction to impose a restriction of this scale under the pretext of avoiding skyrocketing costs, and that, at the same time, Yamaha, which benefits from the most flexible level of concessions, is authorized to develop an engine in V configuration, with the current displacement (1000cc), if in less than two years it will be necessary to move to a higher specification small (850cc).
In any case, matters discussed at MSMA meetings must always be ratified by the Grand Prix Commission, which is the governing body of the World Championship, and in which, in addition to the manufacturers, members of the promoter are represented (. Dorna), the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) and the Teams Association (IRTA).
