THE FIA convinced that I have an option to present to the World Automotive Council improve and “simplify” the radical for next year.
This year's all-new points structure has proven to be a hot topic among competitors and fans alike due to its complexity and weight which many believe has devalued overall victory in ALL rallies.
In 2024, points are split between Saturday and Sunday, and drivers can claim provisional points for their overall position at the end of Saturday's stage, which are then accumulated if they arrive at the finish of the rally .
A decreasing scale of 18-15-13-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 points to the top 10 at the end of Saturdaybut only to those who cross the finish line on Sunday.
In addition to this, a separate points allocation is offered on Sundays. [7-6-5-4-3-2-1] to the seven fastest of the Sunday stages, in addition to the system 5-4-3-2-1 for the five best times of the Power stage end of the rally.
Although the new system was designed to improve Sunday action and was very effective in creating enthusiasm, drivers and teams were very critical of the points weighting system, which was ridiculed on several occasions.
The anger seems to come from the fact that a rally winner can easily end the weekend without having collected the most points. This happened again last weekend, when s, who finished second in the Central European Rallyleaves with two points more than the winner of the event, .

As the FIA assessed four new proposals to introduce improvements to the system for next year.
In his speech to Central European Rally Last weekend the FIA confirmed that it had a proposal which it would present to the World Motor Sport Council and this could come into effect next year.
has learned that part of the proposal involves weighting points to ensure the winner of the rally is rewarded more.
“We have different options, we've been talking about it all season. Every two weeks we have a sports working group and there are different options on the table coming from the drivers' representative, Scott. [Martin]the manufacturers and promoter of the WRC”.
“Finally, we think we have an option to present to the next commission that more or less everyone agrees with,” said the FIA WRC category director. Marina Dunach.
“This will be put to a vote by the World Automobile Council and maybe we will have a new points system for next year.”
“After seeing the different options presented, we tested with Excel files what would happen using the different options and thinking about what would be best for the championship. We all more or less think that maybe it's- be fairer.”
The director of road sports of the FIA, Andrew WheatleyHe added: “The key priority of the original rule change was to try to ensure that we had less discussion about Sunday, that created other discussions that were normal, and now the proposal is to try to adjust it to simplify it.
