Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey defends DC Zach Orr

The Baltimore Ravens hired defensive coordinator Zach Orr after the team lost the AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason last year. Orr has had a number of ups and downs this season, as has his unit, which ranks last in the league in pass defense.

When asked about Orr, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey asked for his defensive coordinator. He said he hates when coaches get scrutinized when it's the players who mess up, mentioning that it's never a good thing and he “hates” how it goes.

“I don't know exactly what's going on, other than what I'm told. My only social media is Instagram Live after Siegen, so I haven't seen much, but I know or feel like there's been some chatter. Knowing what's going on as a player, I hate to see coaches come under scrutiny when the players are at fault. If I felt like there was, “This.” [isn’t] to be properly trained. The [isn’t] that be, [or] “It’s not that,” it’s a little different, but it really sucks if the product we’re putting out there isn’t what we coached [and] is not what we practice. That's kind of what hurts me. Some of the plays I gave up are the coaches fault, or were we practicing them this week and then I came into the game and didn't play it exactly the way it was supposed to and it led to a big play . I hate how coaches… I hate how it works, but that's the NFL. The person over [seeing] It kind of gets everything, but it kind of is what it is. I hate that just because sometimes it's your fault [on] why someone is under scrutiny. It’s never a good thing.”

Orr still excels as a play-caller after having no experience as a signal-caller before being promoted to defensive coordinator. There's still plenty of room for Orr to grow, and that's exactly what Baltimore will be focusing on going forward.
