The next play goes to Christian Gonzalez, whose incredible performance in coverage was a key contributor to the Patriots' defensive dominance this week.
The team's ability to generate pressure that turned into sacks against the Bears would not have been possible without Gonzalez's lockdown coverage. He went against the Bears' top receivers throughout the game and consistently shut them down to give the line more time to feast on the Bears' backups.
Against DJ Moore, Gonzalez was targeted twice and allowed just one catch for 18 yards. When covering Keenan Allen, he allowed no targets or catches, and when facing Rome Odunze, he was targeted twice with no catches allowed.
Instead of shadowing a single receiver, Gonzalez was tasked with covering each of the Bears' top receivers depending on the situation, and he handled it perfectly. Gonzalez is quickly establishing himself as a potential All-Pro player and building on the success of his breakthrough rookie year.
