New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux took note of Brenden Schooler's performance in Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears.
Schooler recorded a sack, a tackle and two quarterback hits on the day. Although he was best known for his contributions on special teams, he factored into the Patriots' defensive scheme as a spy for Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
It was an unexpected wrinkle in the Patriots' defense.
“He needs to be there more often, especially against fast quarterbacks,” Godchaux said, via Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. “We’ve got Josh Allen, we’ve got a couple of those coming up. He needs to be on defense more often.”

Schooler has been a reliable and versatile player for the Patriots since his arrival in 2022.
His advancement on defense could be crucial to the Patriots moving forward as they look to generate more production from the pass rush.
