What Rams coach said about Drake Maye after Patriots loss

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay praised New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye after the Rams' 28-22 victory over the Patriots on Sunday.

It was an outstanding performance from Maye, who completed 30 of 40 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He put the ball in tight windows to receivers, including one to wide receiver Kendrick Bourne in the first quarter.

From there, he found a rhythm and gave the Rams defensive line fits all afternoon.

“You can really see his ability to make plays off schedule. I thought he did a great job today being able to play in the pocket and extend drives,” Rams coach Sean McVay said of Drake Maye after the game. “I thought he was patient and did some underchecks where the guys were able to get something done. We had some tighter coverages. and he was able to fit the ball into tight windows.

“He looks like a stallion. I didn't care too much about it coming out, but I know that a lot of people who have studied it really hard and whose opinions I really respect loved what it was about. You can see the influence he has on his teammates. The way people talk about him here. He looks to be a special player for a long time and he gave us a lot today.”

Despite the loss, Sunday's performance was another step in Maye's development. People across the league are starting to take notice of his abilities, including a Super Bowl-winning coach like McVay.
