This week, ESPN anchor Elle Duncan poked fun at Daniel Jones' farewell speech, in which Jones read a prepared statement to the media and fans. He showed an emotional side that many had not seen from him during his six years in New York.
“I’m sorry, you have to write this down? “Didn’t you go to Duke?” Duncan joked.
“Do you think he's had that saved in his notes since like 2020?” she continued. “Seriously, DJ, I could have saved you about 90 seconds. A rewrite: “I'm sorry you paid me $180 million (actually $160 million) for a playoff win.” And I look forward to reviving my career as Brock Purdy's replacement. “The End.”
Giants senior vice president of communications Pat Hanlon, who has been a protector of the franchise and everyone around him for three decades, stepped in to defend Jones.
“That an ESPN personality would mock Daniel Jones’ statement today is mind-boggling. Considering what has happened at this company over the last few years, this is completely tone deaf,” Hanlon posted on his X account.
So…that's what happened.
