Brock Purdy is a little banged up and the San Francisco 49ers have very little behind him (Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs). It would be another backup scenario, but again, a situation where Jones could potentially see field time.
The 49ers are not as strong as they have been in the recent past, but they are still in the hunt for the playoffs.
Kyle Shanahan can make it work with just about anyone, and the 49ers' catch-and-run offense could actually play into Jones' strength, especially with a good ground game.
Many assumed Jones would be Purdy's replacement anyway. So why not start early?
