Jets not reported as team with interest in Mike McCarthy as head coach

The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy will be going their separate ways.

Whatever McCarthy's next career move is, he is not expected to go to the New York Jets.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints are expected to pursue McCarthy. The Jets were not listed as one of the teams interested in McCarthy when he became available:

On Monday it was reported that the Cowboys and McCarthy would split. The 61-year-old's contract has ended and he will become a free agent coach.

Although reports last week suggested that both sides were working on a new deal, that obviously won't be the case.

McCarthy had a 49-35 record in five seasons in Dallas. During his head coaching career, including his time with the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy has made the postseason in 12 of his 18 seasons as a reserve coach.

The Jets' search will continue, but it's worth noting that McCarthy could end up in either Chicago or New Orleans. That would fill a vacancy and keep a New York-desired target on the board to choose from.

Jet's Wire will continue to provide updates to the entire team Looking for a new head coach.
