The Bears are pleased to open the 2024-2025 Small Business All-Pros program presented by PNC by highlighting Classic Cobbler as the first winner in a series of three selected companies this season. As part of this recognition, Classic Cobbler will receive exclusive advertising across the Bears' digital platforms, social media and in-stadium presence at Soldier Field from November 19 through December 2.
The Classic Cobbler is located at 3453 S. Prairie Ave. in the heart of Chicago's historic Bronzeville neighborhood, offering a treasured family tradition to Chicago's dessert scene. Owner Bran'Arla Johnson founded the bakery with her mother and brother in 2010, creating a legacy inspired by Southern family recipes passed down through generations. Classic Cobbler's homemade offerings include peach, apple, blueberry and blackberry cobblers, as well as a variety of cakes and puddings, including lemon cream pie and banana pudding.
“We pride ourselves on providing outstanding products and customer service and creating an environment where our customers can enjoy the atmosphere of our cafe,” said Bran'Arla Johnson, owner of Classic Cobbler. We look forward to seeing how this program can strengthen our marketing efforts, increase sales, and help us grow our business and achieve long-term success. This program will allow us to hire a few more employees to help us expand beyond our retail stores, partner with other local businesses, and enter the wholesale market. We are incredibly honored to be recognized by the Bears and look forward to sharing our Cobblers with even more Chicago fans.”
The story of Classic Cobbler is one of commitment to family, community and craft. Johnson and her family started out in their home kitchen, baking for friends and neighbors until increasing demand led to the opening of their first brick-and-mortar store in Chicago Heights in 2010. After switching to online ordering in 2015, the family fell in love with Bronzeville and launched their current location in October of that year. Classic Cobbler has been a featured performer at major city events, including the Taste of Chicago and the Hyde Park Jazz Fest, and its cobblers are also served at Lexington Betty's Smoke House in Pullman.
“It is inspiring and heartwarming to support a program that has the potential to accelerate the success of a hard-working small business like Classic Cobbler,” said Scott Swanson, PNC Illinois regional president. “We are excited to see how this new visibility will lead to job growth in Bronzeville and increased sales while remaining true to the creation of homegrown Chicago flavors.”
Beyond desserts, Classic Cobbler has established itself as a community hub. Recently, the bakery has expanded its positive impact by hiring three new employees, providing indoor seating and creating a welcoming environment for all. Classic Cobbler offers discounts to seniors, nonprofits and employees of the nearby Chicago Police Department headquarters. Additionally, they regularly partner with block clubs like Bronzeville King Drive and Bronzeville GAP Community to host local events in the bakery's welcoming space. The bakery's commitment to creating a friendly and community-oriented atmosphere is reflected in glowing customer reviews and positive feedback.
