When the Cleveland Browns take on the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, quarterback Jameis Winston will get the chance to face his former head coach Sean Payton.
Winston, coming off his third clean game in four games, is gaining momentum as the season winds down and is making the difference in Berea beyond 2024.
Payton, for whom Winston started in 2020 and led to a 5-2 start before suffering a torn ACL with the New Orleans Saints, about what the former No. 1 overall pick has to offer:
“He's big. He's great in the locker room. I’ve said this before – he has this infectious personality. [He has] He has a smile on his face every day when he is at work. You hear him before you see him – that type of guy. When [former QB] Drew [Brees] went under initially [former QB] Teddy [Bridgewater] was there for a while [for] five weeks, then we adjusted something, then with Jameis in the same way. I really enjoyed coaching him and having the opportunity to work with him. He is the ultimate professional. He has natural leadership qualities and you can feel that with him.”
That's high praise for Winston, who will be looking to beat his former head coach on Monday night when the Browns take on the Broncos as significant underdogs. If Winston continues to play well enough, he could even be the starting quarterback in Cleveland next year.
