While taking risks on special teams has paid off for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the past, the team ran into trouble in Week 10 against the Washington Commanders. A failed fake punt almost cost them the game, leading to many questions for the head coach .
In ahead of the Week 11 matchup against the Tomlin explained what led to the decision to attempt a fake punt in Washington: “We're just not going to let people do unorthodox and potentially inappropriate things against us.” I'm not going to let people try our punt- Putting too much strain on the protection unit by leaving people uncovered when we have guys capable of throwing and catching the football.”
Interestingly, even though the play didn't work as intended, Tomlin added that these special teams plays will take center stage in 2024 and are just as routine as offensive or defensive calls.
Can Do you expect more trick plays in the future, or will Tomlin be forced to back down after the failed attempt in Week 10?
