It's no secret that the have battled numerous injury issues in 2024 and lost several key starters to season-ending injuries. However, the absence of a key defender has hurt the team's chances of winning more than most. At OLB was injured and missed five of the eleven games this season, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost 2-3. In contrast, when Highsmith wasn't dealing with his previous groin injury or current ankle problem, Steel City remained undefeated and boasted an impressive 6-0 record.
While backup OLB Nick Herbig has shown impressive pass-rush skills while filling in for the injured edge rusher, Highsmith's strength against the run, combined with the need for opposing offenses to prepare for his presence, could make for a stronger Black- and lead the Gold team?
It's concerning, to say the least, that Highsmith likely won't play against the Cincinnati Bengals after being listed as doubtful for the AFC North divisional game. However, that is have the opportunity to showcase their ability to win games without Highsmith against their bitter rivals.
