Cam Newton says Panthers are avoiding his legacy in emotional video

The greatest Carolina Panther of all time isn't feeling the love of the Carolina Panthers.

To from 4th and 1 with Cam NewtonCam Newton was asked about the organization from last weekend. The visit was attended by a handful of former Panthers players representing the franchise as ambassadors – including Steve Smith Sr., Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly.

However, that group did not include Newton – who says he was not invited abroad.

A visibly disturbed Newton then explained that the Panthers had no pictures of him at their home stadium, Bank of America Stadium, something he learned the hard way when he returned to the building for a seven-on-seven tournament last year.

“We went to the Panthers facility and…” . . Are you telling me that one of the greatest Panthers to ever play the game is nowhere to be found? Nowhere. I don’t talk anywhere,” he said. “Who brought this to my attention? My son. So if you as a man have to explain something to your son. . . “Dad, where is your picture?”

“Then you know what the tour guide said? “Oh, when you go to the second and third levels, Cam is everywhere. I saw Jake Delhomme. I saw Thomas Davis. I saw Luke Kuechly. I saw Julius Peppers. I saw Steve Smith.

“At this particular point in time, the question was, 'Oh, we don't know if Cam is retired yet.' Newsflash: I will never retire. I know that I have played my last bit of football. I don't care if I officially retire. I’m in a happy place.”

He also claimed that he had reached out to the Panthers in the past about doing a live recording of his show featuring him, his old teammates and current quarterback Bryce Young — but to no avail.

Newton led the Panthers to three NFC South titles, four playoff appearances and their second-ever Super Bowl appearance. In addition to being the franchise's all-time leading passer, he is also the only Panther to be named Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.

His last down came in 2021.
