Texans elevate former Alabama TE Irv Smith Jr from practice squad

is called.

The former Minnesota Vikings starting tight end is being hired by the Practice squad for Sunday's showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Receiver Jared Wayne will also be activated for Sunday's game.

With Wayne's arrival, it's a good sign that second-year pass catcher Xavier Hutchinson won't be playing on the road in Week 13. He was able to practice on a limited basis this week after suffering a shoulder injury against the Tennesee Titans.

Wayne has been on the practice squad for two years and was called up once in 2023. Smith, a former second-round pick out of Alabama, has not yet been added to the Texans' active roster since joining the team in September.

Over his career, Smith recorded 109 receptions in the NFL for 973 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last season with the Cincinnati Bengals, he caught 18 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown in 12 games.

Kickoff at EverBank Stadium is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT.
