With the Indianapolis Colts in their bye week, let's take a quick look at the 2025 NFL draft.
In a current mock draft by – one of the best in the business – ensured the Colts strengthened their cornerback position in the first round.
With the 15th pick, the Colts selected East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel. Brugler would note that at 6-2, 200 pounds with 4.3 speed, Revel is the type of athlete that GM Chris Ballard covets.
Of note, Revel is coming off a torn ACL, but Brugler adds that Revel can still be in the “top 25 mix” in April if team doctors at the NFL Combine are confident about where he is in the rehab process stands.
Due to the ACL injury, Revel only appeared in three games this season, but got off to a very fast start, allowing just eight completions on 21 goals with two interceptions and two pass breakups.
During the 2023 season, Revel's first season as a starter, he allowed a completion rate of just 44.2 percent, 13.2 yards per catch and recorded 10 pass breakups and one interception. His passer rating was just 61.2 when targeted.
Not only did Revel perform as one of PFF's best cover corners, but he also received high marks against the run and was a very reliable tackler.
The emergence of Samuel Womack this season, along with the growth of Jaylon Jones, has helped bring stability to the Colts' cornerback room – a position group that had a number of question marks before the season.
However, looking ahead to the 2025 offseason, this unit's depth at least needs to be bolstered, not to mention competition would still be a good thing. Currently, the Colts defense ranks 26th in yards allowed per pass attempt.
