After a win in Week 13 against New England, we now head into the bye week that they added linebacker Liam Anderson to the practice squad.
Anderson had spent most of this season on the Colts' practice squad before being added to the 53-man roster in Week 11.
However, this past Saturday, before the team's game against the Patriots in Week 13, Anderson was released from the active roster to make room for guard Atonio Mafi, who was signed from the practice squad to add depth to the Colts' interior offensive line strengthened as they overcame some injuries.
The decision to release Anderson likely came down to numbers. As previously mentioned, the Colts were thin on the interior offensive line, while Anderson was one of six linebackers on the 53-man roster at the time.
During Weeks 11 and 12, when he was active on game days, Anderson played no defensive snaps, but he saw 27 snaps on special teams playing in three different phases.
After Mafi was signed from the practice squad to the active roster, the Colts already had a practice squad available – so there was no need to make a corresponding cut to make room for Anderson.
Anderson went undrafted by Holy Cross in 2023. He spent his rookie season with the Colts, primarily on the practice squad, but also appeared in one game on special teams.
